Finnish-Indian partnership in environmental issues strengthened
On Wednesday 4 March, Finland and India signed a Memorandum of Understanding to further increase cooperation in environmental issues. The aim is, in particular, to promote the opportunities of Finnish companies and research institute to cooperate with Indian partners.
On behalf of Finland, the Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala and, on behalf of India, by Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav.
This is an update to the memorandum signed in 2020 that has paved the way for Finnish-Indian cooperation in environmental issues and sustainable development. In the new memorandum the key focus is on circular economy and sustainable development solutions and climate work.
One concrete example of this closer cooperation is the World Circular Economy Forum WCEF originally established on the initiative of the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra to be held in India in autumn 2026.
Minister Multala visits India as a member of the delegation led by President of the Republic Alexander Stubb. During the visit Minister Multala also participates in the programme of the Finnish business delegation and an event organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce.
