Gene Technology Legislation

Finnish Gene Technology Act (377/1995) and Decree (928/2004) were adopted in 1995 and amended in 2000 and 2004 in order to bring the Finnish legislation concerning genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in line with the current EU Directives on the contained use of genetically modified micro-organisms (GMMs) (219/90/EC and 98/81/EC) and on the deliberate release of GMOs into the environment (2001/18/EC).
