Biodiversity roadmaps

The aim of the Programme of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s Government is to achieve a nature positive society. According to the Programme, the Government seeks to halt the loss of biodiversity through cooperation. To this end, the Government encourages all sectors to draw up biodiversity roadmaps through which the dependence of economic activities on the natural environment and the added value it offers (ecosystem services) are also understood from the perspective of the national economy.

Roadmaps are a means to reach a better understanding of the impacts of sectors on biodiversity, the measures needed to halt biodiversity loss and the related conditions, and to increase awareness of the opportunities created by the target to halt biodiversity loss.

The sectors are independently responsible for the preparation and implementation of the roadmaps. The roadmaps describe the paths of different sectors towards nature positivity. Implementation driven by the sectors themselves helps to ensure that the companies in the sector can perceive the roadmaps as their own and genuinely commit to them. The biodiversity roadmaps provide estimates of anticipated development in the sectors to the central government and support policy preparation.
