Governor of Colorado Jared Polis visits Finland on 13 and 14 June
Minister of Climate and the Environment Kai Mykkänen meets Polis on 13 June in Helsinki.
Minister of Climate and the Environment Kai Mykkänen and Governor Jared Polis will meet in Helsinki to discuss ways to deepen the partnership between Finland and the state of Colorado, especially in the fields of clean transition and technology.
“Finland and Colorado are committed to a clean transition and to climate objectives. Our solutions are driven by science and technology. For Colorado, Finland is a NATO ally and an interesting, like-minded partner thanks to our leadership in climate and technology, and our innovation and startup ecosystems,” says Minister of Climate and the Environment Kai Mykkänen.
The Governor and his business delegation will meet with many representatives of Finnish business and research sectors and central government administration. The visit will include a stakeholder event celebrating the partnership between Finland and Colorado. Participants from the private sector and research organisations will share their experiences of how the partnership has been implemented. The keynote speakers at the event will be Minister of Economic Affairs Wille Rydman, Governor Polis and Pasi Rajala, State Secretary to Finland's Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen.
Cooperation between Finland and Colorado supports the broad-based partnership between Finland and the United States. The cooperation has already opened up many opportunities. Colorado is a national hub of cutting‑edge research, defence industry, and quantum and space technology, with key counterparts in Finland.
The visit is a continuation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by Finland and Colorado in February 2022. The priorities of the partnership include supercomputers and quantum technology, the green economy, and the aerospace sector. Finland and Colorado seek to advance both commercial and research partnerships.
Colorado is one of Finland's six state partners in the US. Cooperation with individual states is part of the closer relations between Finland and the US, aiming to increase trade, investment and the exchange of experts. Finland's partnerships with the states take place in prioritised fields.
