Ministry of the Environment
Publication date 15.12.2023 11.59
Press release

Today, on 15 December, the Ministry of the Environment has opened a call for applications where municipalities, joint municipal authorities, research institutes and associations can apply for funding for projects that promote the decarbonisation of the built environment or climate change adaptation. The total amount of funding to be applied for is EUR 800,000 and the deadline for applications is 28 February 2024.

The Ministry of the Environment grants funding for research, development and innovation projects that test and develop new means for climate change mitigation and adaptation.

The programme is very broad in scope. The projects may concern e.g. databases and carbon calculators, planning, energy efficiency or construction processes. A particular focus in the application for the grants is on projects that are related to the utilisation of the existing building stock, construction materials, carbon sinks and reservoirs and means for adaptation. The results of the project must be openly available for use.

The government grant can cover the maximum of 70% of the project’s costs.

The call for applications opens on 15 December 2023 and ends on 28 February 2024 at 16.00.

Climate work in the built environment funded by more than EUR 30 million

The application that has now been opened is part of the Low-carbon Built Environment Programme of the Ministry of the Environment and Business Finland, launched in 2021.

So far more than EUR 30 million in funding has been granted to over 100 projects. More information on the projects funded by the Ministry of the Environment and Business Finland is available on the programme website.

The programme is funded from the EU recovery instrument. How the funds will be used nationally was outlined in the Sustainable Growth Programme for Finland.

Besides funding, the Low-carbon Built Environment Programme provides a platform for developing broad-based cooperation between operators in the sector and for sharing best lessons learned.
