Photography Exhibition on Arctic Biodiversity in the Lobby of the Ministry
Arctic Biodiversity Through the Lens photography competition and exhibition raises awareness of the importance of Arctic biodiversity, brings attention to the multiple challenges facing Arctic biodiversity and to celebrates the beauty of the Arctic.
The competition was organized by CAFF, the biodiversity working group of the Arctic Council. Finland held the chairmanship of the Council from 2017 until May 2019. The Arctic Council consists of eight member states – USA, Canada, Russia, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Iceland and Kingdom of Denmark – and six indigenous organizations: Saami Council, Aleut International Association, Arctic Athabaskan Council, Gwich'in International Council, Inuit Circumpolar Council and Russian Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North.
The competition was very successful and received well over 1600 image submissions from photographers, both young and old, across four main categories: Arctic biodiversity, landscape, peoples, and business and science. The competition has been judged by renowned photographers and Arctic experts such as: Carsten Egevang, Lawrence Hislop, Krista Ylinen and Einar Guðmann and Gyða Henningsdóttir.
