Juhani Damski appointed as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of the Environment

The Government has appointed Doctor of Philosophy Juhani Damski as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of the Environment. Juhani Damski comes to the Ministry of the Environment from the Finnish Meteorological Institute, where he served as Director General.

Damski’s term as the Permanent Secretary starts on 1 June 2020 and lasts until 31 May 2025. As the Permanent Secretary, Damski will direct, develop and supervise the activities of the Ministry of the Environment and its administrative branch. The duties also include ensuring smooth cooperation between the Ministry of the Environment and its administrative branch and other ministries and their administrative branches.

Juhani Damski holds the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. He has served as Director General of the Finnish Meteorological Institute since 2016. Previously, he has served as Director of Unit at the Ministry of Transport and Communications and in various positions at the Finnish Meteorological Institute.

A total of 23 candidates applied for the post of Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of the Environment.
