Finland is now among the countries which have ratified the Paris climate change agreement as our ratification document was delivered to the UN Secretary-General in New York on Monday 14 November. This was preceded by the ratification of the agreement at the Presidential Session on Friday 11 November.

The Paris Agreement entered into force on 4 November. The EU as a community had ratified the agreement before that.

The national ratification process was completed before the first session of the Paris Agreement to be held in Marrakech on Tuesday. The Finnish Parliament approved the Government proposal concerning the ratification by a clear majority on 25 October.

“This gives a solid mandate to work for international cooperation on climate issues in Marrakech", says Kimmo Tiilikainen, Minister of Agriculture and the Environment of Finland.

So far the agreement has been ratified by 110 parties, representing 77% of the global GHG emissions.

Minister Tiilikainen heads the Finnish delegation during the high-level meetings on 15-18 November.
