Press release

Corporations’ biodiversity specialists from around the world convene 11-12 November 2015 at the CBD Business & Biodiversity Forum 2015 in Helsinki, Finland, to exchange knowledge on companies’ latest practices on business and biodiversity.

The conference presents for example companies’ solutions from agriculture, forestry, mining and oil industries. In addition financing mechanisms for biodiversity as well as biodiversity’s role in supply chain management will be discussed.

The forum’s theme is “Practices, Solutions and the Way Forward”. The event is being organised by the Ministry of the Environment of Finland in cooperation with Finland’s leading corporate responsibility network FIBS.

Business & Biodiversity Forum is part of UN’s Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD) business sector cooperation initiative that supports biodiversity. The forum was held last time in October 2014 in Pyeongchang, South Korea in contact with COP 12 Convention on Biological Biodiversity. The conference in Helsinki will be the fifth of its kind.

The forum’s objective is to increase knowledge on the central role corporations play in protecting biodiversity and to deepen companies’ understanding of biodiversity’s business opportunities as well as associated risks in loss of biodiversity.

While the forum is primarily directed at corporate responsibility, sustainability and environmental experts, it is also open to all interested in the theme. 250 participants are expected for this free event.
