Building product manufacturers: Have you taken into account the obligation of CE marking
The transition period for steel structures is ending on 1.7.2014
Building product manufacturers should be aware that CE marking is becoming obligatory for still more building products. For example, the transition period for steel structures is ending on 1.7.2014, according to the Construction Products Regulation.
The Ministry of the Environment notes that building product manufacturers may not place building products on the market without CE marking, if such products fall within the scope of the harmonised product standards or if the manufacturer has European technical approval (ETA) for the product.
CE marking requires testing of the product-specific requirements. The commissioning of these tests and the acquisition of documentation from notified bodies can take a considerable amount of time, even up to 1–2 years.
More detailed information on the process for obtaining CE marking is found from Usein kysytyt kysymykset/Valmistaja.
Manufacturers must determine whether their building products fall within one of the areas covered by the harmonised product standards. The hEN Helpdesk provides information on harmonised standards for construction products that fall under the Construction Products Regulation. This includes the existing harmonised product standards and a list of products falling within their scope.
