Mika Nykänen to begin as State Secretary to Ministers Satonen and Mykkänen on Monday 15 January

In its plenary session on 21 December 2023, the Government appointed Mika Nykänen, Master of Administrative Sciences, to serve as State Secretary to Minister of Employment Arto Satonen and Minister of the Environment and Climate Change Kai Mykkänen. Nykänen’s term as State Secretary will begin on 15 January 2024 and will continue for the duration of the ministers’ terms of office.

Mika Nykänen comes to his post from his previous position as CEO of the Helsinki Regional Transport Authority HSL. 

Nykänen’s earlier positions include Director General of the Geological Survey of Finland, Director of Federation of Finnish Technology Industries, Managing Director of the Association of Finnish Steel and Metal Producers and Managing Director of the Finnish Shipowners’ Association.

In 2015–2021, Nykänen was also a member of the Senior Management Group of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment Group, which comprises the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and the agencies, public bodies, companies and funds in its administrative branch.
