Climate Policy Roundtable convened for last time for now – messages to next Government on agenda

The Climate Policy Roundtable holds its last meetings for now on Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 February. The main topics are the evaluation of the work done by the Roundtable and key messages to the next Government. The Roundtable is chaired by Prime Minister Sanna Marin.

Climate policy issues and the perspectives of justice related to it have impacts throughout society and on all its members. The Climate Policy Roundtable was set up to strengthen extensive discussion on climate change in society. At the end of its term, the Climate Policy Roundtable will discuss the work it has done and give advice and suggestions to the next Government.

The discussion will be based on the evaluation of the first term of the Climate Policy Roundtable 2020–2023, commissioned from Gaia Consulting. According to the evaluation, the work of the Climate Policy Roundtable is important and should be further developed. The Roundtable is unique even by international standards: there is no forum in other countries where the leaders and decision-makers of society are as widely represented. However, dialogue and interaction within the Roundtable should be increased and the objectivities for its work clarified. 

The Climate Policy Roundtable brings together a broad spectrum of stakeholders from different sectors of society. The purpose of the Roundtable is to create a common understanding of how Finland can make a just transition to a carbon neutral society by 2035. With its work, the

Roundtable supports the preparation and implementation of Finland’s national climate policy.
