Minister of the Environment, Energy and Housing Kimmo Tiilikainen will head a Team Finland visit to Tunisia and Morocco on 22-27 January 2018 to promote the exports and internationalisation of Finnish companies. Members of the delegation also include representatives of the Finnish Environment Institute SYKE, Natural Resources Institute Finland LUKE and Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra.

“On the Tunisian and Moroccan market there is a lot of demand for Finnish knowledge and expertise. I have had the pleasure to meet the Tunisian Minister of Local Affairs and the Environment Riadh Mouakher on several occasions, including a visit to Finland last summer to learn about the opportunities offered by the circular economy. In both countries there are many local water and infrastructure projects under way, and Finnish companies will certainly have excellent solutions to offer to these”, Minister Tiilikainen says.

Besides Minister Riadh Mouakher, Minister Tiilikainen will meet the Tunisian Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies Khaled Kaddour, Minister of Equipment, Housing and Spatial Planning Mohamed Salah Arfaoui and representatives of financial institutions and industry. He will also visit local establishments to learn about the management of waste and wastewater.

In Morocco Minister Tiilikainen will meet the Minister of Energy, Mines and Sustainable Development Aziz Rebbah and representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Transport and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The sites to be visited include the Research Institute in Solar Energy and New Energies and waste and wastewater management plants. Besides water, waste and energy the topics on the agenda include the circular economy and investments in sustainable and modern industrial production. In Morocco systematic work has been done to develop infrastructure and the utilisation of renewable forms of energy. The aim is that by 2030 52% of the electricity is produced by using renewable sources, wind power and solar energy in particular.
