27.5.2021 | On May 27th 2021 the Government adopted a resolution on the Helmi habitats programme that extends until 2030. The programme includes 40 actions for accelerating the restoration, management and protection of different habitats. 2.7.2026 | The draft National Restoration Plan has been circulated for views. The plan specifies how Finland aims to implement the EU Nature Restoration Regulation and improve the state of nature in the years to come. The draft should be ready to be submitted to the European Commission in the autumn. Next year the funding targeted to nature conservation will be EUR 100 million higher than in the beginning of the government term. 7.2.2023 | Last year the Finns designated about 4,700 hectares of forest for permanent protection under the Forest Biodiversity Programme for Southern Finland METSO. The OECD considers the carbon neutrality target and targets related to promoting biodiversity and a circular economy as highly relevant.
